The Chevrolet Silverado HD pickup will receive a number of updates for the 2021 model year. One of the most important is an increase in trailer traction (in one version) by 500 pounds (227 kg). Now the Silverado 3500 HD Work Truck modification with Regular Cab, rear wheel drive, dual rear wheels, V8 6.6 Duramax diesel (451 hp, 1234 Nm), ten-speed automatic transmission and Max Tow package can tow 16,329 kg. Further behind are direct competitors: Ram 3500 (up to 15,921 kg) and Ford F-350 (up to 16,057 kg).
The increase in the permissible weight of the trailer was achieved due to some adjustments to the wheels and suspension, while the diesel parameters did not change.
Like its GMC Sierra HD counterpart, the Silverado HD gets an improved trailer vision system, including zoom, yaw angle indicator, rollover risk warning, side camera angle shift when maneuvering, indication of the zone in which another vehicle can prevent the trailer from changing lanes. All of this is now available on the Silverado 1500.
Chevrolet calls the achieved parameter the best in the segment, which is not entirely correct. However, in terms of gross weight (without trailer), the heavier Ford F-450 pickup also falls into the same “Class 3” (US-spec) load along with the Silverado 3500 and Ford F-350. And he, in one of his versions, can tow a trailer weighing 16,783 kg. So the record did not fall, but staggered.
This is not the first time Chevrolet has partnered with workwear manufacturer Carhartt. The collaboration resulted in the Silverado HD Carhartt Special Edition.
The new model year brought several special pickup editions. For example, Carhartt based on the LTZ configuration. Here, body-coloured grille and bumpers sit alongside chrome inserts, 20-inch All Terrain wheels stand out against Mosaic Black metallic with a narrow Carhartt stripe, Jet Black and Carhartt Brown perforated leather seats in two-tone, and Carhartt stitching and embroidery on the bodywork. headboard with all-weather floor mats and platform tarpaulin with Carhartt logos.
Other new versions that stand out with their special color and decor are the Midnight Edition, Z71 Sport Edition and Z71 Chrome Sport Edition. By the way, for the colors in the gamut of the Silverado HD itself, two new ones appear: Mosaic Black and Cherry Red.
The company has revised the trim levels of the Chevrolet Silverado HD. So on the Work Truck, Custom and LT versions, you can order a cargo platform view camera with a photo output to the interior mirror, and a similar camera with an image on the central screen has become standard on High Country and an option on LTZ and LT. The Work Truck can be equipped with SiriusXM radio and OnStar services, which are standard on the LT. Work Truck and Custom get a front center console with storage, LTZ and High Country wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Safety Confidence Package with automatic braking and other features is available for Work Truck and Custom. In the fall, dealers will have updated pickups.
